Twisted T.V.

What’s been missing from T.V. the last few years? If it’s not stupid comedy sitcoms, it’s stupid reality television, and what we’ve really need is Horror in our daily dose of television.

Ah, the days of TALES FROM THE CRYPT, THE OUTER LIMITS, THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE X-FILES are no more- now we have to deal with shite like MEDIUM and POINT PLEASANT. Until now.

Looks like SPAWN creator Todd McFarlane has hooked up with AngryFilms to create an anthology of horror, fantasy and sci-fi on the Fox Network entitled TWISTED TALES. McFarlane will host the show ala Rod Serling style from the depths of a spooky dark basement. Good shite!

Here’s what Todd and producer Don Murphy had to say on the project:

“There is nothing on television that is scary or creepy enough for me, week in and week out. It is my hope to be able to deliver a series that will keep the audience consistently off-balance and frightened.”
While Murphy discusses the reason it’s only a half an hour instead of the usual hour long episode formatt:“Other series went to the easier fit idea of multiple stories in an hour, and inevitably one of the stories was bad. Here it’s one story, one episode, bang — we gotcha.”

With McFarlane on board I would think the series would be animated, but there’s nothing over at Spawn.com that points in either direction- so I suppose we will see. Either way, I’m stoked- I’ve always loved this style of storytelling for quick fixes of horror- and 30 minutes is just about perfect! Plus, any break from reality TV, especially good horror is fine by me- you can only watch stupid people saying and doing stupid things for so long until you just can’t take it anymore!

And check out Gretel from McFarlane’s Twisted Fairy Tales series- Yikes! No wonder the witch wanted to eat her… I’d eat her too!
