Hit and Miss

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! Or for those who don’t speak Jabberwock, F*ckin’ A!. Horror once again reigned supreme at the weekend box office.

HIDE AND SEEK

(read Arrow’s review here)
, managed to scare up an impressive 22 million dollars over a January weekend that saw surprisingly brisk business at theaters. Looks like despite middling reviews, the appetite for any new horror is still strong. Even when it comes bundled with a gimicky protect the last reel push from the studio.

Unfortunately the news wasn’t so good for Uwe Boll’s sophomore effort ALONE IN THE DARK

(read Arrow’s on-set experience here)
, which managed just $2.5 million.

So let’s all dance a little jig now, because horror at #1 is good for the genre no matter how it happens. And congrats to DeNiro for his second top earner, with
MEET THE FOCKERS still going strong at the #5 spot.
