Variety reports that Dimension stuck pre-emptively to snatch up the much buzzed about WOLF CREEK before it’s premiere at Sundance. To the tune of about $3.5 mil. Good for writer/director Greg McLean. But is it good for us?
See the problem with the shelf and hack job that Dimension pulled with DARKNESS and the upcoming CURSED is that it creates negative expectations for any genre project they get their hands on. I think it’s unlikely WOLF CREEK will get anything less than the royal treatment when you consider it’s an Aussie horror film getting great buzz right on the heels of SAW’s success. However, Dimension has nicely set themselves up for even more scrutiny then they’d get through the normal course of fan interest and internet rumors. Hope they’ve learned their lesson and do this one up right.
Hell, maybe they were bored and just wanted to create a challenge for themselves. If so, they’ve succeeded admirably well!
