The Tingler Returns

Oh to return to a simpler time. Back in the late 50’s, B-movie horror gimmick master William Castle released THE TINGLER. The story followed a scientist searching for a cure for fear, who accidentally unleashes the Tingler, a being that grows on its victims spines and can only be killed by their screams.

Now what Castle did was fix the theater chairs to give an electric shock to moviegoers when the Tingler struck, no doubt leading to much wetting of pants and generally hoarse audience members. Of course in a day and age when people will sue you for stepping on their toe, no way you could pull something like that off. Nevertheless, Columbia Pictures is moving forward with a remake. It’s either the worst idea in horror remake history, or they’ve got a kick ass concept and script to make this old gem shine. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
