An interesting new killer started stalking the Internet this past Friday. The website for the indie horror project HELL’S HALF ACRE
went live, so to speak, and while we’ve all been burned by promising independent horror films in the past, this one has some unique things going for it.
– The website kicks ass! From the sweet slash sound when you click on a new area, to the creepy killer silhouette, to the download of the theme song Coo-Coo, it’s a fun time just visiting.
– The trailer, while a bit dark, shows some scenes of sufficient tastiness to give you a nice idea if this is going to be your cup o’chum (aka the kids ain’t safe).
– HIGH BODY COUNT! To quote the filmmakers, “HELL’S HALF ACRE was independently produced, thus giving us the freedom to try to bring the highest body count EVER to the screen…The movie moves at 100 miles per hour and never slows down. Our killer doesn’t stand in the woods for 20 minutes looking through a window before he kills his victims. He moves fast, running down streets, yanking people out of cars…men, women, and, yes, even children.” Yum! Want more? “Every penny spent went toward something that could be destroyed on screen.” Sweet!
The lensers behind this monster are Sean Tiedeman and Scott Krycia, videographers with long experience working on tribute videos (George Romero, David Cronenberg, Wes Craven, Udo Kier, Don Coscarelli, Robert Englund) at Fango conventions. So we know they’ve got the right sensibilities, and they’ve clearly got heart. Here’s hoping their finished product lives up to its promise. Otherwise, we’re guaranteed another independent horror story.
