Black Adam filming wraps; Johnson calls it a “career-definer”

It looks like DC’s Black Adam has finally finished shooting, and by the sound of it, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is spent. The iconic star shared his wrap-message to the crew on Instagram today, along with a post noting that “this has been one for the ages and easily the hardest labor and toughest grind mentally and physically of my entire career.”

The video itself is pretty nice, with Johnson seeming like a genuinely humble guy who employs most of the same people on all of his movies. He even gives away $10,000 to some of the crew in a wrap-draw, and indeed he's got that "just one of the boys" vibe about him.

Notably, The Rock calls Black Adam a "career-definer" in the video, and sure enough, it may well be. While Johnson's had many big hits, along with the lucrative Jumanji franchise, playing a superhero (or anti-hero in the case) really can change things for him, giving him a signature part. Up until now, I'm not sure that I'd say The Rock has a legit signature role, as even when he's playing Hobbs in the Fast & Furious movies, it still feels like he's doing a variation of The Rock; right?

With Black Adam, though, this could be a whole new ballgame as he'll be playing a character with rich mythology to draw on, and it's a role he's spent years chasing. Black Adam comes out July 29th, 2022, and is set to co-star Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Jaume Collet-Serra directs.
