A member of Brandon Lee’s family has come forward to offer their sympathies to the family of Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza after a deadly accident on the set of Rust has taken place. According to reports, an accident occurred when Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun that killed the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and injured Joel Souza. According to tweets posted by co-star Frances Fisher, Souza has since been released from the hospital.

Sharon Lee, the sister of Brandon Lee, expressed her thoughts on the incident via Twitter, saying, “Our hearts to out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all in evolved in the incident on Rust.”

Lee’s brother, Brandon Lee, was the son of martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. Brandon was only 28 years old when he was shot and killed while filming the classic comic book thriller The Crow. After an extensive investigation, it was discovered that a firearm had been improperly loaded, which ultimately led to the accident. Lee’s death became something of a Hollywood myth for many years, with fans of the late actor circulating wild and inaccurate stories about his passing.

The accidental death of Hutchins and injuring of Joel Souza reinforces the need for safety on film sets and has likely drudged up harsh memories for Brandon Lee’s family. Hutchins was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Souza received emergency care at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
