Mansion of the Doomed: Charles Band’s first horror movie gets new DVD, Blu-ray release

Full Moon founder Charles Band produced his first horror film, Mansion of the Doomed, in 1976 – and now Full Moon has given the film a new DVD and Blu-ray release! As the company notes, “there’s never really been a GOOD home video release of Mansion of the Doomed, even from Full Moon, as the elements just weren’t anywhere to be found. Until now, that is. Full Moon is super stoked to announce the Blu-ray and DVD release of one of the most lurid and unsettling exploitation films of all time, presented now for the FIRST TIME EVER fully uncut and remastered from the recently uncovered original 35mm negative!” Copies can be purchased at FullMoonDirect.com. Directed by Michael Pataki from a script by Frank Ray Perilli, Mansion of the Doomed stars Richard Basehart as

the maniacal Dr. Leonard Chaney, a brilliant surgeon who compulsively kidnaps people and rips out their eyeball, dumping their bleeding bodies into a filthy basement cage. His master plan? To use these ill-gotten orbs and transplant them into the skull of his daughter, who herself was blinded in a tragic accident years before.

Gloria Grahame co-stars as Chaney’s complicit nurse, and the film also features an early role for genre icon Lance Henriksen.

Although I’m a fan of Charles Band / Full Moon, I’ve never seen Mansion of the Doomed. I’ll have to fix that soon. If you haven’t seen Mansion of the Doomed and would like to check it out before purchasing a copy, the movie is streaming for free on Tubi.
