Netflix is looking to add some creepiness to their subscribers’ holiday season this year with the release of the Danish horror series Elves, which is now available to watch on the streaming service. To help you decide whether Elves is something you’d like to watch this November / December, the show’s trailer is embedded above.

Produced and set in Denmark, this six episode series was created and written by Stefan Jaworski, based on an original idea from Jannik Tai Mosholt and Christian Potalivo. The synopsis:

A Christmas vacation turns into a nightmare for a teenager and her family when they discover an ancient menace that stalks their island getaway.

Ann Eleonora Jørgensen, Rasmus Hammerich, Peder Thomas Pedersen, and Lila Nobel star. Elves was directed by Roni Ezra and produced by Elise H. Lund of Miso Film. Jaworski serves as executive producer alongside Mosholt, Potalivo, Jonas Allen, and Peter Bose.

Bose had this to say about Elves:

With our new Netflix show Elves we continue the strong partnership we have been building with Netflix through three seasons of The Rain. Elves is a Christmas horror show exploring the premise ‘What if Elves were real and dangerous? and once again Netflix shows that they dare when others don’t. We praise that Netflix opens the doors to new genres which we couldn’t afford to develop and produce in the past in our local market. Elves (was) shot entirely in the greater area of Copenhagen and we look very much forward to giving Netflix’ subscribers a unique take on the Christmas genre.”

Jaworski previously co-wrote The Devil Below, a horror movie I found to be extremely dull. Here’s hoping Elves is much more interesting than that, especially since it’s substantially longer. I do enjoy watching Christmas-themed horror movies and shows, so I might check Elves out sometime this holiday season.
