Ever since Andrew Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of his version of the character have been demanding that Sony gives him the call so that he can get another shot at being Spidey for a future film. Among those who have voiced their support for Garfield to suit up as Spider-Man once again, some claim that the actor got the short end of the stick when webbing around New York City for Sony‘s Amazing Spider-Man movies. Having seen Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters, I’d say that Garfield looks to have had a blast reprising the character, but is he ready to lead another film as the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler?
Recently while speaking with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield was asked point-blank if Sony or Marvel had approached him about starring in another Spider-Man film. “Look, man, I ain’t got a call,” Garfield replied while throwing his hands up in the air. Garfield then compared the situation to playing the game Werewolf or Mafia, both of which contain “spot the liar” elements where people suspect you’re a part of something you’re not. “I am not the werewolf. I promise you. I am not the werewolf,” Garfield protested while trying to convince Horowitz that he wasn’t full of… Well, you know. “I did not get a call,” Garfield reiterated to Horowitz, who then winked in response.

Now, I’m not calling Garfield a liar, but I am getting a whiff of something in the air, and it ain’t the smell of Aunt May’s famous wheat cakes. For weeks now, rumors have been swirling that after the incredible response to his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is planning to welcome Garfield’s Spider-Man back into the fold – possibly for Venom 3, a Morbius cameo, or, if fans are lucky, another film in Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man series. Among those three possibilities, a cameo in Morbius seems the most likely. After all, Morbius has just been delayed until April 1, 2022, leaving plenty of time to film a scene or several involving Garfield’s Spider-Man, under strict Covid-related protocols, of course.
