The production company Platinum Dunes has been behind the remakes and reboots of some of the biggest franchises in the horror genre. 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2009’s Friday the 13th, 2010’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, those were Platinum Dunes movies. And they wanted to add Halloween to their list of projects. In the new episode of our video series WTF Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie (formerly known as The Horror Movie That Almost Was), we explore what might have been if Platinum Dunes had been able to bring their vision of Michael Myers to the screen.

Released in 1978, the original Halloween was directed by John Carpenter and has the following synopsis:

On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers brutally murdered his teen sister Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.

Platinum Dunes didn’t have the chance to remake Halloween, but writer/director Rob Zombie did in 2007.
