Dwayne Johnson is no longer entertaining the idea of running for President of the United States

Dwayne Johnson, President of the United States, political

If you were hoping to vote for Dwayne Johnson in a future bid to become the next President of the United States, I’ve got some disappointing news. The former wrestler turned Hollywood megastar is no longer interested in running for office. Johnson confirmed he’s abandoning any aspirations of running the country to CBS Sunday Morning. Instead, Johnson wants to focus on being a dad, which is admirable and sweet.

“It’s off the table. Yes. It is off the table,” Johnson said when asked about bringing the People’s Eyebrow to the Oval Office. “I will say this because it requires a B-side to this. I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”

Johnson added, “I know what it was like to be on the road and be so busy that I was absent for a lot of years in my first daughter’s…Growing up in this critical age at this critical time in their life, and that’s what the presidency will do. So my number one priority is my daughters.”

“Sure, CEO sounds great. But the number one thing I wanna be is daddy,” he concluded. “That’s it.”

Let it be known that Dwayne Johnson is a man who cares about getting his priorities straight. As entertaining as it might have been to watch the world work itself into a frenzy if Johnson decided to run, I think his lack of political experience is a bit of a red flag. Could he have won through name recognition and charisma alone? Perhaps. However, being President of the United States requires a lifestyle I don’t think Johnson would enjoy. He’ll always be a man of the people, and he already inspires a percentage of the nation daily. Why mess with a proven formula?

In 2007, Johnson said he would “100% consider” running for office. He even admitted to doing a small amount of research into the campaign process. “You know, at the end of the day, I don’t know the first thing about politics,” Johnson said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “I don’t know the first thing about policy. I care deeply about our country. I care about every fucking American who bleeds red, and that’s all of them. And — there’s no delusion here — I may have some decent leadership qualities, but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great presidential candidate. That’s where I am today.”

What do you think about Johnson abandoning any plans to run for President of the United States? Would you have been interested to see what he could bring to the table? Let us know in the comments.
