Jumanji Returns to the Real World
The new series of Jumanji movies that feature Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan put a twist on the original Robin Williams/Joe Johnston adventure film from 1995. The board game returns, but it adapts to a modern time and instead of unleashing the jungle, our characters have to win their way out of the game. However, with the newest entry, Jumanji: Open World, the game will be bring the dangerous elements of out into out world yet again. It had even been revealed at CinemaCon that the original dice used by Robin Williams are featured in the movie. Sony has just revealed the trailer to the latest installment, which is said to be the finale.

In addition to the core four stars, the new movie features several returning cast members. Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, Morgan Turner, Bebe Neuwirth, Danny DeVito, Lamorne Morris, Marin Hinkle, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Rhys Darby are all set to reprise their roles. New additions include Brittany O’Grady (The White Lotus), Burn Gorman (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Dan Hildebrand (Game of Thrones), and Jack Jewkes (Criminal Minds).
The official synopsis reads,
“This Christmas, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are reunited in Jumanji: Open World, the hilarious final installment of the globally beloved action-adventure trilogy. Our heroes have escaped the perilous jungles of Jumanji before, but this time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world.”
Jake Kasdan also returns to direct this entry from a script written by him, Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg. The sequel is produced by Matt Tolmach, Jake Kasdan, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. The executive producers include Barry Waldman, Melvin Mar, William Teitler, Ted Field, Mike Weber, Chris Van Allsburg, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, the original Jumanji starred the late Robin Williams and revolved around a supernatural board game. Flash forward to 2017, and the board game has become a video game that traps four teenagers in adult avatars played by Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a surprisingly big success, grossing over $962 million worldwide. A sequel, titled Jumanji: The Next Level, followed in 2019 and grossed over $800 million.
Jumanji: Open World hits theaters on Christmas Day.
