Mr. Thisforthat: Alexandre Aja producing feature expansion of short film

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last year, a short film called Mr. Thisforthat made its premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival. Stars Collective has now acquired the rights to expand the concept of Mr. Thisforthat into a feature film, and the short's director Thomas Mendolia and writer Michael Karr are both signed on to continue their collaboration on the feature.

Genre regular Alexandre Aja will be producing Mr. Thisforthat through his company Fire Axe Productions, alongside Craig Flores of Bread and Circuses Entertainment and Peter Luo of Stars Collective. Jake Wagner will serve as executive producer.

Mendolia and Karr's short film showed what happens when

a girl from a broken home is visited in her closet by a mysterious creature, Mr. Thisforthat, who promises her anything she wants — at an irreversible price.

Mr. Thisforthat will be one of the first projects to come out of Stars Collective, which Lou founded with the intention of "supporting young emerging filmmakers and heightening diversity in the global entertainment ecosystem". Filmmakers who work with Stars Collective will have "the opportunity to develop content with the guidance of industry luminaries such as director Sam Raimi and producers Donna Gigliotti, Gianni Nunnari, Chris Lee, Sanping Han, Paula Wagner, Patrick Wachsberger, Eric Heumann, and Liming Ke, who all serve on the advisory commission".

Luo had this to say about moving forward with Mr. Thisforthat

The discovery of great source material from talented young creators is one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences for me, and is one of reasons Stars Collective has become such a key pillar in what we do. The broad commercial potential with this project is evident to us and the creative vision and tastes we share with Craig and Alex in terms of how this comes to life, line up perfectly."

Flores added,

Alex Aja and I are always on the hunt for innovative horror stories with franchise opportunities that give birth to iconic sinister characters who will haunt audiences dreams the same way Freddy Krueger did for our generation. With Mr. Thisforthat, Michael and Thomas have crafted a very unique dark lore that sends us back to our deepest fear and the consequences of our choices. We were super impressed with their proof of concept short."

Now I'm eager to see if this "Mr. Thisforthat" will prove worthy of being the new Freddy Krueger.
