The Witcher: Blood Origin – Jodie Turner-Smith to star in prequel series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Several months ago, Netflix announced that they'd be expanding the universe of their hit series The Witcher with a six-part, live-action limited series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. A prequel, Blood Origin is set in "an elven world" 1,200 years before the events we saw in the first season of The Witcher and tells

a story lost to time – the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

The Witcher: Blood Origin has now found its star, as Jodie Turner-Smith has signed on to play Éile,

an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.

Andrzej Sapkowski, author of the book series The Witcher is based on, serves as creative consultant on Blood Origin. The show is being executive produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissirch, showrunner Declan de Barra, Platige Films' Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko, and Hivemind's Jason Brown and Sean Daniel.

This limited series isn't the only prequel The Witcher is getting; an animated film called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is also coming our way.

Turner-Smith's previous credits include True Blood, The Neon Demon, The Last Ship, Nightflyers, and Queen & Slim.

While I'm looking forward to The Witcher season 2 more than any other stories they want to tell about the world Sapkowski created, I'll definitely check out these prequels when they're released.
