2026 Tony Awards
We step away from the world of movies and TV for a second to take a look at the stage world. The 2026 Tony Awards was held last night and two of the big stories involved the musical parody Schmigadoon! and beloved actor John Lithgow. Schmigadoon! would go on to win multiple awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations. The stage show is based on the Apple TV series of the same name and spoofs classic Broadway productions, such as Oklahoma! and The Music Man. Producer Lorne Michaels accepted the award and said, “Sometimes singing, dancing, jokes and a happy ending are all you need.”
John Lithgow made history last night as the oldest actor to win a competitive acting Tony at the age of 80. The acclaimed star has won his third Tony for Best Lead Actor in a Play for his role as author Roald Dahl in Giant.
Liberation
Meanwhile, the production that took home the big prize with a Best Play Tony is Liberation. Bess Wohl is only the fourth woman to win a Best Play Tony for Liberation. The play is about a women’s liberation group in 1970s Ohio.
Yahoo has posted the full list of the winners from last night’s festivities. Check them out below.
