Summer blockbuster season is in full swing, with giant franchises, explosive action sequences, and CGI spectacle dominating multiplexes everywhere. But if you’re looking for something a little different — a film that trades superheroes and visual effects for raw emotion, grounded storytelling, and brutal realism — then The Death of Robin Hood should be at the top of your must-watch list.
Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One), this bold reimagining of the legendary outlaw strips away the familiar myths and presents a far more human, flawed, and haunting version of Robin Hood. Led by a remarkable performance from Hugh Jackman, the film explores the final chapter of the iconic character’s life in a way that feels both intimate and surprisingly uncompromising.
Earlier this week on JoBlo, I had the opportunity to sit down with both Jackman and Sarnoski to discuss the film, its themes, and their unique take on the Robin Hood legend. But that wasn’t the end of the coverage. I also spoke with several members of the film’s outstanding supporting cast, including Bill Skarsgård, who brings a fresh interpretation to Little John, Murray Bartlett, who plays the mysterious and wise figure known as The Leper, and Jodie Comer, whose powerful performance as Sister Brigid serves as one of the emotional anchors of the story.
While the interviews were brief, I was able to get some fascinating insights from each actor. We discussed the experience of filming in Ireland, the atmosphere created on set, and how each performer approached bringing these complex characters to life. The cast also offered some interesting perspectives on the film’s darker tone and what makes this version of Robin Hood stand apart from previous adaptations.
