Godzilla: Singular Point – teaser trailer released for Netflix anime series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this month, we learned that the Netflix streaming service is teaming up with Toho, bones, and Orange to develop a Godzilla anime series called Godzilla: Singular Point. Now a teaser trailer has arrived online to give us a preview of the show, which will be released sometime in 2021.

The teaser trailer is embedded above, and you can see a poster for Godzilla: Singular Point and some images from the show below.

Atsushi Takahashi is directing Singular Point, "which will combine hand-drawn and CG animation styles." Animator Eiji Yamamori handled the kaiju designs, while the creative team also includes sci-fi novelist Toh Enjoe, Blue Exorcist comic creator Kazue Kato, and composer Kan Sawada. The show has the following synopsis:

When danger comes up from the depths, only young geniuses Mei, Yun, and their team can face the threat.

Including "up from the depths" in the synopsis is a nice touch, as it brings to mind the theme song for the original Godzilla cartoon from the '70s. The teaser makes it look like Singular Point is going to be pretty cool, too. It features from familiar things from the Godzilla franchise, including Rodan and – this was a nice surprise – Jet Jaguar!

Although Netflix has previously released a trilogy of animated Godzilla films (GODZILLA: PLANET OF THE MONSTERS, GODZILLA: CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE, and GODZILLA: THE PLANET EATER), the streamer has made it clear that Godzilla: Singular Point has "a new cast and an original story" that is not related to those movies.
