Tricia Helfer, best known to genre fans for playing Number Six in Battlestar Galactica and Charlotte Richards in Lucifer, has landed the lead role in Devour, a body horror film from writer/director Erica Orofino. Georgia Bradner (Resident Alien) and Elizabeth Adams (Hello Beautiful) co-star in the project, which is being produced by Wildling Pictures.
According to the synopsis provided by the producers, Helfer plays Luisa, a former professional figure skater who finds herself struggling with compulsions she cannot control. As Luisa becomes dangerously fixated on Karla (Bradner), a friend of her daughter, a forbidden attraction develops into an obsession and a self-destructive unravelling of her life in increasingly terrifying and transgressive ways.
Adams plays Luisa’s daughter, Elia.
Tricia Helfer on Devour
Helfer said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), “I loved how dark and psychological the story was. Erica wasn’t afraid to go there, and that’s what made me want to be part of it.”
Who Is Behind Devour?
Matt Code, Alison Almeida, and Lucy McNulty are producing Devour. Todd Brown, Kiersten Hanly, Emily O’Quinn Code, Mike Chapman, and Fatima Hayward are executive producers. Blue Finch Films is handling worldwide sales, excluding Canada.
Wildling Pictures previously brought the thriller Phreaker to Fantastic Fest. The company’s other releases include Young Werther, a romantic comedy starring Alison Pill, Douglas Booth, Iris Apatow, and Patrick J. Adams, and the thriller See for Me.
Helfer has continued working across film and television. She recently starred in Hello Beautiful, a drama directed by Ziad H. Hamzeh that adapts cancer survivor Christine Handy’s bestselling novel Walk Beside Me. In the film, Helfer plays a supermodel whose seemingly perfect family life is disrupted by a health scare. She also has a co-starring role in USA Network’s Anna Pigeon, which has been renewed for a second season.
With Tricia Helfer leading a story that combines psychological unease, forbidden attraction, and body horror, Devour is another genre project to keep an eye on as more details emerge. What do you think of the premise? Let us know in the comments.
