The 2026 Emmy Awards: Widow’s Bay and The Pitt are the big winners of the evening

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are over, and once again, HBO Max’s The Pitt took home many awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, but Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay was clearly a favourite, taking home multiple acting awards as well as Outstanding Comedy Series. I’m going to have to renew my Apple TV subscription.

There were some history-making moments for sure, including Jean Smart winning her fifth award for lead comedy actress for the fifth and final season of Hacks, making her the first female performer to take home Emmys for every season of a show. Impressive! Also, Matthew Rhys took home two lead actor awards, one for The Beast in Me and the other for Widow’s Bay.

Some of the categories that were previously part of the Primetime Emmy Awards were folded into the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which took place over a week ago. David Harbour won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for DTF St. Louis, and Linda Cardellini won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for DTF St. Louis as well.
