The Beast in Me has officially been renewed for a second season at Netflix, with Claire Danes set to return as Aggie Wiggs. The show was originally announced as a limited series, but as frequently happens, the critical acclaim led the streaming service to consider a second season.
The Beast in Me Renewed
Howard Gordon served as the showrunner for the first season, and he’ll be back for the second, but he’ll be sharing those duties with Daniel Pearle this time around. Gordan has also signed an overall TV deal with Netflix under his Teakwood Lane Productions banner.
“We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of ‘The Beast in Me’ if we found a story that was worthy of the first – and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” Gordon said. “We loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we’re enormously grateful to Jinny Howe and Netflix, and to Karey Burke and 20th Television for giving us the chance to get the band back together and do it again.“

The show was a big success, staying in the top 10 for five weeks. It also earned Matthew Rhys an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, his second acting win of the evening.
What We Thought
The first season of The Beast in Me follows an author (Danes) who begins writing a book about her new next-door neighbour (Matthew Rhys), a real estate executive who allegedly killed his wife.
Our own Alex Maidy said The Beast in Me is “the type of series that could have failed in less skilled hands,” but the “impeccable acting” of Claire Danes, Matthew Rhys, and Brittany Snow elevates it to something special. “There are genuine stakes for these characters who feel three-dimensional and fully realized, even if their decisions can be confounding and frustrating to the viewers at home,” he wrote in his review. “By the final episode, which I think many of you will binge to get to, you will witness some scene-stealing work from Matthew Rhys that will continue to cement him as one of the most talented and underappreciated actors working today. The Beast in Me is chilling, exciting, and a bold return to form for Danes and Rhys, and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.“
