Charlie Harper is a lovely new film. Directed by Tom Dean and Mac Eldridge, the feature tells a tale of modern romance in an uncertain age. It does so beautifully, courtesy of its co-stars, Nick Robinson and Emilia Jones. Harper (Jones) is a chef seeking out a successful career. Meanwhile, Charlie (Robinson) has yet to find what he is looking for in life. It’s a charming romantic drama beautifully explored with solid performances.
Tom Dean continues to impress with a personal and honest follow-up to Carolina Caroline (which he wrote). The dialogue and the performances are all impressively explored. It’s nice to see personal stories where the leads shine, with authenticity. Having spoken to Ms. Jones for CODA, it was wonderful to chat once again. And she, as she did in that feature, is wonderful here.
The conversation with Emila and Nick was absolutely charming. It started speaking on rehearsal and working with Tom Dean and Mac Eldridge. Either way, there was clearly a lot of respect all-around for the filmmakers. During the chat, the two had such engaging energy; I was utterly charmed. If you’re a fan of Carolina Caroline, you will want to see this heartfelt romantic drama.
