Video: Tommy Lee Wallace demonstrates how he created the Michael Myers mask

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

As fans of the HALLOWEEN franchise know, the iconic mask of slasher Michael Myers was created by production designer Tommy Lee Wallace, who took a store-bought William Shatner / Captain Kirk mask and made some modifications to it, changing it from the face of the captain of the starship Enterprise to the face of pure evil.

Back in 2014, Horror's Hallowed Grounds host Sean Clark got together with Wallace to film a short video in which Wallace "rebuilt the Shape", taking another Captain Kirk mask and showing each step in the process of turning Shatner into Myers. This video was

made with the intention of being part of the Halloween: The Complete Collection Box Set. For years fans have asked Tommy Lee Wallace for the details of exactly how he converted the William Shatner mask into The Shape. For the first and only time Tommy takes us step by step and shows exactly what he did back in 1978.

The 7 minute video is embedded below, and it's pretty cool to watch Wallace at work.
