CARGO is a project that first caught our attention nearly three years ago, when writer Yolanda Ramke and producers Kristina Ceyton and Russell Ackerman were presenting it at the Production Finance Market in the UK. A year later, we heard that the film was moving forward, with Martin Freeman signed on to star in it.

Now the finished product is set to reach theatres in Australia on May 17th, with a worldwide release on the Netflix streaming service following the next day, and a newly released trailer makes it clear that this film is not aiming to be the "feel good movie of the year".

Described as "a post-apocalyptic aboriginal zombie movie", CARGO stars Freeman as

a father who, stranded in rural Australia in the aftermath of a violent pandemic and infected himself, desperately seeks a new home for his infant child and a means to protect her from his own changing nature.

Freeman is joined in the cast by Anthony Hayes, Susie Porter, Caren Pistorius, David Gulpilil, and Simone Landers.

CARGO marks the feature directorial debut of Ramke and her co-writer Ben Howling, and it's based on a 7 minute short the pair made several years ago.

Judging by the trailer below, this is going to be a heartbreaking and disgusting viewing experience… but it's an experience I look forward to having.

Ceyton and Ackerman produced the film with Samantha Jennings, John Schoenfelder, and Mark Patterson. Ian Kirk, Jeff Harrison, Fergus Grady, Craig Deeker, Ian Dawson, Phil Hunt, and Compton Ross served as executive producers.
