It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen Alex Proyas in the director’s chair. Actually it’s been nearly three years! That’s just insane… Luckily it looks like we won’t be waiting long to see Proyas’ next project though!

According to Variety the filmmaker is eying the director’s chair for GODS OF EGYPT, which is coming at us from Summit Entertainment and scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Proyas, who would actually be working on the script as well, has already been tapped to produce the film through his Mystery Clock Cinema banner along with Basil Iwanyk and his Thunder Road Productions banner. Works for me. Here’s the rundown:

Set against the legendary world of great pyramids and sphinxes, the story sees a common mortal thief, a god and a goddess unite on a magical quest to fight an evil force in ancient Egypt.

And that’s about all we’ve got on this one! What do you guys think? GODS OF EGYPT sound like it might be worth keeping an eye on? Spit some bullets below and let us know if you’re jiving with this one!

My guess is Proyas will be signing on to helm GODS OF EGYPT any day so be on the lookout for that confirmation as we hear it.
