It should be no surprise that a blockbuster sci-fi action movie based on one of the most popular game franchises of all time will be made EVENTUALLY, but Microsoft feels the need to remind us that project is coming, but that “the time isn’t right” just yet. This is Micrsoft’s Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor filling us in on the latest:
“We’re going to make a movie when the time is right,” he said. “We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic.”
How exactly does a movie change your target and age demographic? I mean, yes, technically you want to expand it from fifteen year old boys to “everyone on earth,” but how are you planning on doing that with a universe like Halo? Just stay true to the origins, hire some writers to craft a halfway decent story (which I maintain the Halo series does not have for the most part), throw in some Cameron 3D tech and you’ll be good to go.
