BLACK SWAN and HACKSAW RIDGE producer Brian Oliver has optioned George Englund's memoir, The Way It's Never Been Done Before, with the intention of turning the novel about the life of actor Marlon Brando into a feature film.
Along his storied career as a commanding presence of the silver screen , Brando brought such legendary characters like THE GODFATHER's Don Vito Corleone and SUPERMAN's Jor-El to the masses. In the past, Brando had earned his first of eight Oscar nominations in the 1951 adaptation of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. He won his first Oscar in 1954 for ON THE WATERFRONT and his second in 1972 for THE GODFATHER. Sadly, Marlon Brando passed away in 2004 due to a respiratory insufficiency.
Oliver's New Republic Pictures banner snagged up the memoir written by Brando's longtime friend and former director. The label will also set to work on completing work on Todd Field's CREED OF VIOLENCE, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as a script for a project entitled GREEN RUSH.
"George and Marlon's friendship spanned five decades and covered all the ups and downs in the actor's career and personal life," said Oliver. "It makes for both an epic portrayal of the greatest actor ever to grace the silver screen and an intimate story of two men with an almost brotherly bond."
