A planet-destroying creature gets loose in Life trailer and Super Bowl spot

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

When Ridley Scott was assembling the cast for his upcoming ALIEN prequel / PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT, it was said that actress Rebecca Ferguson was in the running for the lead. That role ended up going to Katherine Waterston, but a few months later Ferguson did sign on to star in director Daniel Espinosa's sci-fi thriller LIFE – a movie about a space station crew discovering signs of life in a sample taken from Mars. Thanks to that life form, things go terribly wrong on board that space station. For a while, it wasn't clear just what sort of life form this would be and what effect it would have on the crew members, but now a new trailer and the TV spot that aired during the Super Bowl last night have revealed that LIFE does involve a monstrous creature getting loose on the space station.

Ferguson isn't in ALIEN: COVENANT, but LIFE looks like an ALIEN movie.

Written by ZOMBIELAND and DEADPOOL scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, LIFE has this official synopsis:

Life is a terrifying sci-fi thriller about a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.

Ferguson's co-stars include Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Olga Dykhovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

LIFE is scheduled to reach theatres on March 24, 2017, beating ALIEN: COVENANT to the screen by just under two months.
