One movie that I was avoiding for some time was A SCANNER DARKLY. Not because it looked bad, but rather that the vectorized look of the film creeps me out to no end (thank you, WAKING LIFE…).
Today Warner Bros. announced the DVD release for the film, which stars Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder. Set for December 19th at $27.99, the adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer with DD 5.1 Audio. Extras for the disc include an audio commentary by director Richard Linklater, producer Tommy Pallotta, Keanu Reeves, Isa Hackett Dick (daughter of Philip K. Dick) and Philip K. Dick historian Jonathan Lethem, the “One Summer In Austin: The Story of Filming A SCANNER DARKLY” (documenting story development to principal photography), “The Weight of The Line: Animation Tales” (featuring animator interviews, studio B-roll, pencil tests, production art and step by step examples of the animation process) and trailers.
