Warning – if you haven’t seen WANTED, then you may not want to read any further…
WANTED is a success, that much we already know. It made quite a splash with $50 million in its first weekend, and has already locked up approx. $90 million in 10 days. Overseas, it has kidnapped another $63 mil, and it will make an absolutely killing when released on DVD later this year. Think Universal’s planning a sequel..?
How about a trilogy? If a trusted source of CinemaBlend’s can be believed, a trilogy is in the works, predictably featuring James McAvoy (Wesley) and Terrence Stamp (Pekwarsky)… and Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. (SPOILER ALERT!) Whaaaa? Though the lovely “Fox” committed creative suicide at the end of the first film, and Freeman’s slimy Sloane got a bullet in the skull, its only natural that we’d want to see more of the two cinematic badasses that helped make WANTED so cool. And the method is easy: PREQUEL!
The plan is to involve them in flashbacks which will explore the past of Angelina Jolie’s Fox, and allow us to meet the man who trained and recruited her. That person could become a major villain in the sequels, which would explain the flashback links to Jolie and Freeman.
Furthermore, the sequel would see Wesley travelling overseas, fighting Fraternity cells all over the world… Seems like Universal wants another Jason Bourne series – albeit a cranked up, borderline-insane one. Click HERE To check out the entire article.
