WALLACE AND GROMIT fans will be excited to hear that Aardman Animation is at work on a new movie, even if the cheese-loving inventor and his faithful hound are nowhere to be found.
Aardman (Aarrrrrdman?) is working on THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS, their latest stop-motion animated movie (which will, naturally, be in 3D). The story follows Pirate Captain, “a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas.”
Our “luxuriantly bearded” captain will be voiced by Hugh Grant, and his ragtag crew features Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen. Their rivals in the race for Pirate of the Year Award include Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz, voiced by Jeremy Piven and Salmay Hayek.
The pirates’ quest “takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!”
The movie is directed by Aardman founding partner Peter Lord (co-director of CHICKEN RUN), and is due in theaters from Sony on March 30th, 2012.
