Aaron Taylor-Johnson kind of confirmed he is playing Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the frontrunner for the job as Quicksilver in Joss Whedon‘s THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Unlike many other tight-lipped actors cast in Marvel movies, the KICK-ASS 2 star doesn’t seem to think there is any reason not to talk about his new role, even if it hasn’t been confirmed by the studio.

In an interview with Total Film, the British actor was very keen to talk about the comic character and not just from the perspective of a fan. Taylor-Johnson got into details of how he wants to play the character on screen.

Here is what the actor had to say about Quicksilver:

“There’s years – over 50 years – of backstory on him all there to use, and I like doing that. Him and his sister [Scarlet Witch] have been abandoned by their parents and their father, and they grew up in Eastern Europe defending and looking out for themselves and each other. His sister really is his guidance – emotionally she’s the one who looks after him, and vice versa. He’s very overprotective physically – he doesn’t want anyone touching her.”

So he definitely has an understanding of who the character is, but what about why he is interested in the role?

“He has real anger frustration – I like that. I always thought it’d be quite funny if you saw him eating loads and people asked him why and he’d explain it’s because he’s burning so much energy all the time. Or ideas that you’d see him come back round – but he’s already nipped out and got his lunch somewhere else. He just got bored – his attention span is so fucking quick.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson surprised me greatly with his turns in SAVAGES and ANNA KARENINA. The guy definitely has range and can bring a totally different intensity to Quicksilver that would be completely different from his KICK-ASS portrayal. He even went to far as to say he wants to bring an “out there” style to playing the role much as Nicolas Cage and Jim Carrey did in their KICK-ASS characters. Count me intrigued.

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens in theaters on May 1, 2015.
