Cohen off xXx 3 for MEDIEVAL?
In what may be a crazy move on director Rob Cohen’s part, according to Variety, he has backed out of directing XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE to direct MEDIEVAL for New Regency. You’d think he’d want to return to one of his better films for a second go-round, but no… he wants something new, something epic, something he decribes as “The Magnificent Seven” in the Middle Ages.
Not that I’m against new stories and projects, but Cohen… dude… the last time you tackled an “epic” movie we got THE MUMMY 3, and we all know where that went. A new XXX with Vin Diesel would be fun, and I won’t lie… I’m a big fan of the original. Not so much of the Ice Cube version, though. So sign me up for a part 3! Then again, maybe having someone fresh bring back Xander Cage is a better idea…

BASTERDS 40 Min. Short?
According to THE WRAP, the Weinstein Company is asking Quentin Tarantino to trim the 2 hour and 40 minute cut of INGLORIOUS BASTERDS to an even 2 hour movie in hopes to increase movie playtimes, and therefore, increase the amount of sweet hard cash the movie will bring in to the studio. 40 f*cking minutes… that’s like cutting out an entire subplot to the movie! That’s not a trim, that’s a freakin’ massacre!
No word on whether Tarantino will be compliant with the request or if he’ll give TWC the finger, but my guess he does it… I mean, the Weinstein’s write the checks and technically own the film, so what choice does he have? Super lame though… let’s hope this is just internet hoopla and nothing more…

KICK-ASS: The Movie Book!
The movie book for KICK-ASS is now available online, and we have the first-look at the book’s cover, and potentially, a first still from the actual film itself. It’s odd, not a lot has been released about the film thus far, and I wasn’t even sure it was filming just yet, but apparently… it is! And you too can own the book September 22nd by heading THIS WAY for the pre-order.
As described by Amazon, KICK-ASS goes like this: “Kick-Ass”, the bestselling comic book series by Mark Millar (writer of the graphic novel “Wanted”, which became a smash-hit movie) and artist John Romita Jr., is now an eagerly awaited film, and this is the essential companion book! What would happen if you tried to be a superhero? What would happen when an ordinary kid in a spandex costume comes face-to-face with the criminal underworld? Comic book fan and high school student Dave Lizewski, aka the self-styled vigilante Kick-Ass, is about to find out…and it’s going to get really, really violent! With Mark Millar as your guide, “Kick-Ass: The Movie Book” gives you the lowdown on the making of the film, with eye-popping art from the original comics, script extracts and hundreds of movie photos! It is suitable for adults only.
i can’t flipping wait to see this movie! And I love that they have to add the “suitable for adults only” line at the end. Awesome.. just f*cking awesome. With the book being released in September, I think it’s safe to assume KICK-ASS will be released shortly thereafter…

Meet BRONSON!!
There are some film ideas that are just too golden to pass up, and the idea behind BRONSON is one of them. We have the new trailer for you below, but before we get into that, you gotta check out the synopsis:
In 1974, a hot-headed 19 year old named Michael Peterson decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. During that time, Michael Petersen, the boy, faded away and ‘Charles Bronson,’ his superstar alter ego, took center stage. Inside the mind of Bronson – a scathing indictment of celebrity culture.
F*ck yeah! What a goddamn badass, and as you can tell by the trailer below, this guy doesn’t f*ck around! Something about bald-headed British dudes makes them the the ultimate fist-fighters, and trust me.. when this guy throws a punch, you DO NOT want to be on the recieving end. Star Tom Hardy reminds me a lot of the old boxers from the 20s and 30s–just a big, hulking mass of testosterone-filled ass-kickery. Hells yeah. I want to change my name to Charles Bronson now, too

Abrams / Cruise back for M:I4!
According to the ever-reliable TV Guide, STAR TREK and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 3 director J.J. Abrams has been approached by Tom Cruise and company to act as producer on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 4!
Though nothing is set in stone, Abrams would be returning to produce but will likely NOT return as director. Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing… I’m a HUGE fan of M:I3, probably more than I should be, and the thought of another entry with Abrams on board (even if only as producer) has me all riled up! That shit on the bridge was epic, as was most of the other action sequences featured throughout. Make another one, guys! I’m in!

GI JOE drama!
There are some flicks I can see having a ton of drama behind it, but I wasn’t expecting GI JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA to be one of them. According to LATINO REVIEW, GI JOE producer Don Murphy (via his message board) claimed that director Stephen Sommers was fired from GI JOE after his first cut, because it was one of the worst screened films in Paramount history.
We’re talking the studio that brought us FRIDAY THE 13TH series, so I find that hard to believe, but that’s the claim. Worst screening ever. Sommers was booted, an editing wiz was brought in to make a better film, while Sommers was asked to make it look like he was working on the project. What the hell?
A day later, another GI JOE producer (Lorenzo diBonvaentura) emailed Latino Review claiming all the reports were false, untrue, and uncalled for. Not only that, but he claims the film was tested very well.
So what’s that mean? Either they’re saving face or it was all bullshit from the beginning, either way, I don’t see this as the kind of buzz you want for a big summer movie. People want to make sure it’s entertaining… not if there was drama in the making of the film. I just hope the flick f*cking rocks!
