When they go back and watch the 1996 film Hellraiser: Bloodline, the fourth film in the Hellraiser franchise, some viewers are surprised to realize that one of the characters is played by Adam Scott in one of his earliest roles, long before he really broke out with the likes of Step Brothers, Party Down, and Parks and Recreation. But if things had gone Scott’s way, you wouldn’t just see him in Hellraiser: Bloodline, you’d also see him show up in Hellraiser: Hellseeker, the sixth film in the franchise.

Who did Adam Scott play in Hellraiser: Bloodline?

Scott’s Bloodline character was Jacques, an assistant to aristocrat Duc de L’Isle, who commissioned the creation of the Lament Configuration in 1796 in hopes of opening a portal to Hell. After the portal opens, Jacques kills his boss and takes control of a demon called Angelique, but he only manages to keep things going his way for two hundred years. In 1996, Angelique turns against Jacques and kills him.

That didn’t stop Scott from auditioning for a different role in Hellraiser: Hellseeker a few years later.

Why did Adam Scott audition for Hellraiser: Hellseeker?

During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Scott admitted that he wasn’t a Hellraiser fan before joining the franchise.

I didn’t know about Hellraiser, but I was like, ‘Oh, this is an acting job?’ … I had a tough time. Hellraiser 6 rolls around and my agent sends an audition for Hellraiser 6 and I’m like, ‘Now, wait a second. I was in Hellraiser 4…’ (My character) does not make it. But I need a job. So I’m like, ‘Screw it,’ and I go to the audition just thinking maybe they won’t notice that I was in Hellraiser 4. I remember being in the waiting room kind of looking around and seeing a door ajar to someone’s office and seeing a producer from Hellraiser 4 in the office and just, like, holding my papers up. ‘Okay, if he doesn’t see me and they think I do a good job, maybe I’ll get in Hellraiser 6 as well.’

Scott didn’t make it into another Hellraiser movie, but these days he can be seen in the horror film Hokum and the TV series Severance.
