You guys ready for a flashback? Way back in August 2005 we got word on an adaptation of comic THE GRAY AREA heading our way… Oh yeah, you read that right. August 2005! Hell I bet some of you weren’t even born yet!

Alright that ‘born yet’ statement aside, I’m completely serious. It’s been nearly five years since we first announced this project and we haven’t heard zilch since then! Absolutely nothing in five years! Talk about being stuck in development hell huh? What we do know is that it seems the project has jumped from Benderspink Productions to Solipsist Films sometime last year… but that’s it. Well folks today we’ve finally got an announcement regarding THE GRAY AREA and hopefully it can get things rolling again!

According to the guys over at Mania.com the project finally has a writer in the from of Mark Kratter. Now Kratter hasn’t done much aside from a few unimportant executive producer credits but he does have a couple scripts in play including ENDANGERED and THINNING THE PREDATORS. And… that’s it. So it isn’t much but at least we’ve finally got something going on for THE GRAY AREA. Let’s hope Kratter keeps things moving!

The film is based on the comic of the same name by Glen Brunswick and John Romita Jr.. Scope out the synopsis:

After his execution for double-crossing a drug cartel, Rudy Chance, a brutal, corrupt cop and womanizer expects he’ll wind up in Hell. Instead, he finds himself in the Gray Area. Here he is forced to combat evil for an afterlife police force and gain a shot at redemption. Given extraordinary powers, Chance hunts down the wicked to condemn and the worthy to heal. But can he control his own dark side or will it lead him to eternal damnation?

Sounds pretty intriguing right? So what’s taking this one so long!? Hopefully the announcement that a writer has finally come aboard gets things rolling for THE GRAY AREA. As always be sure to keep it here for more on the project as we hear it!
