If you remember way back when, there was a little show called ‘The Addams Family’. Before the movies with Raúl Juliá (forget Tim Curry’s contribution), before the ABC cartoons, there was the 1964 sitcom, which was spawned from Charles Addams’ cartoons in The New Yorker. The show wasn’t a success when it was launched, but ruled in syndication. DVDActive checks in today with news that the Addams are finally joining ‘The Munsters’ on DVD this October.
Set for release on the 24th of October, the three-disc package will include the first 22 of the 64 episodes of the show, all presented in 1.33:1 full frame with English Mono tracks. Extras for the set include:
- audio commentary by director Arthur Hiller for the episode “The Addams Family Goes to School”
- a You Rang, Mr Addams featurette
- a Snap, Snap featurette
- a Theme Song Karaoke
It would’ve been nice to have more commentary tracks for the episodes, including input from folks like John Astin (Gomez) and Felix Silla (Cousin Itt), seeing as they, along with Lisa Loring (Wednesday) and Ken Weatherwax (Pugsley), are the only members of the original cast still with us. Ah well, we still have 42 episodes to remedy that.
