Back in October of last year, we let you know that Lionsgate had signed up for XOXO, a cyber-thriller that takes place in the dangerous world of online tomfoolery. Written by one of BLACK SWAN‘s scribes, Mark Heyman, the flick has been called FATAL ATTRACTION for the digital age. Rather lame on the surface – how many damn times can we recycle the old FATAL ATTRACTION bit? – but the project may have just picked up some steam.

According to Variety, ADJUSTMENT BUREAU writer/director George Nolfi (pictured above, right) will rewrite and direct XOXO as part of a development deal recently signed with Lionsgate. While BUREAU was Nolfi’s directorial debut, he’s had ample success as a screenwriter, having worked on high-profile pics like OCEAN’S TWELVE and THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM.

Produced by Darren Aronofsky, XOXO tells of a twentysomething man who meets a female contemporary on Facebook and begins a digital relationship with her, only to find the object of his affections take the relationship to an obsessed place.

With Nolfi on board, perhaps the material can be lifted above the standard issue B-movie trash it sounds like. That said, they must lose that title. XOXO? Give me a f*cking break. Next thing you know, there will be a movie called LOL
