Earlier today we told you about the distribution deal between Lionsgate and BURIED (HERE), and look what we have here… yet another distribution deal making headlines, this one involving Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE and 20th Century Foc.

After a six studio bidding war based on 30 minutes of footage and a starting price of $9M, Fox came out on top, blowing the competition away. The deal also included some sort of contract between Fox and Rodriguez beyond PREDATORS, of which both parties are working together on for a summer release. Looks like Rodriguez said bye-bye Weinstein Company, hello Fox! Good for him!

MACHETE stars Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal, and is based on the fake trailer featured with the GRINDHOUSE double-feature back in 2007. If the final film is anywhere as awesome as that trailer, we’re all in for a real treat!

Now that MACHETE has official distribution, let’s hope a release date isn’t too far off.
