If you're a fan of the ALIEN franchise who was put off by Ridley Scott's "in the same universe" film PROMETHEUS, the PROMETHEUS sequel / ALIEN prequel ALIEN: COVENANT is looking to win you back by featuring a familiar sight on its first official poster. After sitting out PROMETHEUS, the classic Xenomorph creature is back in COVENANT, and assuring viewers of that is what the poster is all about.

Paired with the image of a Xenomorph is a simple tagline: "Run." It's no "In space no one can hear you scream", but it is better than "Hey! There's a Xenomorph this time!"

Along with the reveal of the poster comes soon cool release date news. ALIEN: COVENANT has been moved up several weeks from its originally announced August 4, 2017 date and is now set to reach theatres on May 19, 2017.

As of right now, the two other big non-animated films scheduled to be released on May 19 are ANNABELLE 2 and BAYWATCH. The latest PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film and the sci-fi thriller LIFE will step up as competition the following week.

Maybe it should have stayed in August, which is less crowded…

Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT is said to be set ten years after the events of PROMETHEUS and tells the following story:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Benjamin Rigby, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, and Noomi Rapace star, with Michael Fassbender reprising the role of David. Fassbender will also be playing another android character named Walter in the film. Guy Pearce is rumored to be in there as well.
