AMC comments on the end of The Walking Dead comic book series

Robert Kirkman's comic book series The Walking Dead comes to an end with issue #193, which is on store shelves today… but don't expect the end of the comic to mean AMC's The Walking Dead television series is going to end any time soon.

The AMC show is in production on its tenth season, while the fifth season of its companion series Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing. Other shows and TV movies set in the world of The Walking Dead are also in development, so there are still going to be a lot of zombies roaming the screen on that network.

Once the news came out that Kirkman had decided to end the comic series, AMC released the following statement:

This extraordinary comic created a world that already lives in multiple forms, and in the hearts and minds of millions of fans around the world, and will for many years to come."

So the nice sentiment that the world Kirkman created will live on in the hearts and minds of fans for many years to come is mixed with the assurance that AMC intends to keep Walking Dead shows on the air for many years to come.

The main show does still have a good amount of source material to draw on, if they choose to. As season 9 came to an end, the show had reached around the issue #145 point of the comic book, so there are almost fifty more issues of stories that could inspire episodes. And of course, the show has strayed from the source material in many ways, so they can continue coming up with their own scenarios as well.
