For all the skeptics weary of Frank Darabont’s televisual zombie outlet “The Walking Dead”, here’s two pieces of news that ought to make you rest easier!
First off, word out of Variety states AMC has just ordered a total of six episodes of the series, still keeping with plans to have the pilot be written and directed by Darabont himself. He’ll then slide into an executive producer role alongside Robert Kirkman (author of the original graphic novel) and a few others.
About the pickup deal, AMC’s SVP of programming Joel Stillerman beamed:
“He’s (Darabont) taken the baseline road map of the underlying material and just blew it out to the next level,” adding “there’s stuff in there that will make the people who love the comics very happy and some surprises in there as well.”
Sounds groovy, right? But that’s not all gang!
According to STYD, it appears the all-world special effects team KNB EFX Group has joined the production of AMC’s new horror show! KNB, the effects team behind everything from ARMY OF DARKNESS to PULP FICTION, from SIN CITY to this year’s PREDATORS, are also no strangers to Darabont’s resume. The two parties have teamed up prior for THE GREEN MILE and THE MIST. Hopefully they can keep the magic intact!
Based on Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel, “The Walking Dead” picks up after:
An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months, society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. Rick Grimes finds himself one of the few survivors in this terrifying future. A couple months ago he was a small town cop who had never fired a shot and only ever saw one dead body. Separated from his family, he must now sort through all the death and confusion to try and find his wife and son. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living.
“The Walking Dead” looks to roll this May and premiere in October (perfectly coinciding with AMC’s Halloween related programming).
