Variety is reporting Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Preacher (based on the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic series of the same name) has officially received a pilot order from AMC. THE INTERVIEW directors will be behind the camera for the pilot, and besides writing the script, Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will also be the showrunner, with Ennis and Dillon serving as co-executive producers. Production on the pilot will begin next summer for series consideration in 2016.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on Preacher:

Preacher has been our favorite comic since it first came out. Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it’s an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won’t make too many dick jokes and ruin it.

Joel Stillerman (AMC's executive vice president of original programming) on the project:

Every once in a while you find a project where all the elements line up beautifully. With ‘Preacher,’ it starts with a bold, compelling, and thought-provoking comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and a whole lot of fans who already know Jesse Custer, Cassidy, and Tulip. Add to that the passionate and talented Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin, an incredible producing team in Neal Moritz, the Original Film team and our good friends at Sony Pictures Television, and we have everything we need to be very excited to move forward on ‘Preacher.'

Not familiar with the comics? Here's the synopsis from Amazon:

Merging with a bizarre spiritual force called Genesis, Texan Preacher Jesse Custer becomes completely disillusioned with the beliefs that he had dedicated his entire life to. Now possessing the power of "the word," an ability to make people do whatever he utters, Custer begins a violent and riotous journey across the country. Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend Tulip and the hard drinking Irish vampire Cassidy, the Preacher loses faith in both man and God as he witnesses dark atrocities and improbable calamities during his exploration of America.

In my opinion Preacher is one of the best comic series ever, so I'm extremely excited AMC has ordered a pilot. Are you interested in checking out the planned series?
