American version of Channel 4 sci-fi series Black Mirror in the works

Black Mirror Charlie Brooker

I'm very glad people have been checking out the Channel 4 series Black Mirror on Netflix. It's an absolutely twisted and brilliant show (you can read Chris Bumbray's Binge Watchin' review for it here), so why not ruin a good thing by doing an American version, right?

Co-CEOs and co-chairmen of Endemol Shine North America Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin said "there is a plan" for a U.S. take on the sci-fi anthology series during a keynote session earlier this week. Abrego and Corwin didn't reveal any details about the project, but did say Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker and producer Anabel Jones “have really touched on something and I agree – we need more." There's also no word on if it'll just be remakes of the original series episodes, or completely new stuff.

Yes, I also groaned when I read the headline, however there is good news. Charlie Brooker has said in the past he'd like to be in charge of any remakes. Since the American version will come from the original studio and with Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin being so high on Brooker and Jones, there's a good chance Channel 4's Black Mirror team will be involved with the planned U.S adaptation.

I still think an American take is completely unnecessary, but I would love to see more people discover the fantastic series, and maybe it will help raise Charlier Brooker's profile in the United States. Are you down for a U.S. version of Black Mirror?

And since more Charlie Brooker is never a bad thing:
