The name Ryuhei Kitamura is fast becoming known to horror geeks – if it isn’t already, of course. While his MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN is getting some very positive buzz, it still remains to be seen if it will a) stick to its AUGUST 1 release date, and b) get more than a prefuctory limited release. .. Up until now, however, his most well-known piece of work has been VERSUS, which I’ve never seen, but have heard is a real trip (check out Arrow’s take HERE!) Hopefully I get to see it before Kitamura’s American remake hits!
That’s right, the news coming from Fantasia fest is that Kitamua plans on remaking his own crazed action/horror epic, in English. The only quote, for now, from the director on the subject is “The US Versus will be insane!” Well that’s a relief!
What’s this thing about anyway? I’ll let Arrow describe, succinctly: Two escaped convicts, a ruthless gang of Yakusa mafia dudes, a hot dame and a shady villain find themselves in a forest where the dead come back to life.
