Variety is reporting this morning that Moonstone Entertainment CEO Etchie Stroh and producer Robert Katz have teamed up to produce a stretch of moderately budgeted ($30M-$40M) horror flicks under Katz’s Amicus Entertainment banner. What could be cooler than a new horror making machine? How about the fact that they have a few horror legends under their belts to start things off on the right foot?!
First up is a psychological thriller entitled RECALL from director Harold Becker, which is about a chance meeting between a man and a woman that causes the man to doubt his sanity. Sounds cool to me! Most women I meet make me doubt my sanity too, so I can definitely understand where this flick is coming from!
But that’s not the exciting ‘legend’ news I was talking about. Also on their plate is H.P. Lovercraft’s THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP, from director Stuart Gordon! The man who brought us Lovercraft’s RE-ANIMATOR is gearing up for another dip into the craft- DOORSTEP is already in pre-production! Though no stars are attached to the project yet, it’s only a matter of time before we hear more on this one.
Finally, it was mentioned that a movie adaptation of an unsaid horror novel could also be in the works for Amicus, with director Tobe Hooper in talks to direct! Let’s hope it’s the TCM Tobe, and not MORTUARY Tobe, as I don’t think anyone wants to see more of that.
