Amityville 1974 will delve into the DeFeo murders

The Amityville Horror

I really don't think we need another AMITYVILLE movie that digs into the murders committed by Ronald DeFeo Jr. at that famous house in Long Island. It feels like that real life tragedy has been used as horror movie fodder plenty by now. But we are getting another AMITYVILLE movie that intends to delve into the DeFeo murders. Just two months after the release of Daniel Farrands' THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS, which was inspired by the DeFeo story and can be purchased at THIS LINK, it has been announced that the Wonderfilm Media Corporation has given the green light to a project called AMITYVILLE 1974.

Casey La Scala will be directing the film from his own screenplay, which is

based on the real life tragedy that spawned THE AMITYVILLE HORROR novel and subsequent films when Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot all six members of his family on a fateful November night. This tragedy was seared into the minds of the public consciousness by writer Jay Anson, whose book “The Amityville Horror” recounted the terror experienced by a family moving into the house in 1975 but fleeing after 28 days driven out by hostile supernatural forces. Wonderfilm’s AMITYVILLE 1974 will tell the story of the DeFeo’s horrifying murderous rampage.

The writer/director says this is

a story that takes its jumping off point from the true facts surrounding the Defeo tragedy, but also focuses on the human drama that took place inside a family as they were relentlessly stalked by a terrifying evil."

Jeff Bowler, founding partner of Wonderfilm Media, adds:

We are beyond thrilled to introduce AMITYVILLE 1974. Casey has a truly unique and terrifying vision for the fright franchise and audiences will experience horror like never before with this film."

Bowler is producing the film with Shaun Redick and Todd Garner. Bret Saxon and Yvette Yates serve as executive producers. Wonderfilm is fully financing the film, and their sister company Wonderfilm Global is in negotiations with domestic theatrical distributors. Worldwide sales will launch at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

AMITYVILLE 1974 will begin filming in November.

Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala were both producers on AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, and at one point were collaborating on a project called AMITYVILLE: THE LOST TAPES.
