Amityville, a hoax?

With the
Amityville Horror remake
hitting our screens in April 2005, I
recently re-visited the original 1979 flick (review up next week) which
prompted me to surf the Net for info on this supposedly true story (that’s a pic
of the real house on the left).

I found this compelling essay written by
Wayne McDowell
portraying
the whole thing as hoax. I know this is old news but being that I was too young
to care when it all went down; it’s new news to me. Here’s an excerpt:

"Under oath, George Lutz admitted that
the incidents involving the band music and the rolled up rug and moving living
room furniture and the door being ripped from its hinges had never happened. Nor
had a supernatural voice ordered them from the house the day of its blessing.
Indeed the house had never been “formally” blessed at all, not by Father Mancuso
or any other priest. Lutz further stated that he “may have been only dreaming” when
he saw his wife levitating above their bed. And no, he had never seen a pig,
red-eyed or otherwise in his daughters room. As for the “hurricane strength”
rainstorm that knocked out power the day the Lutzs fled the house, weather
reports that day only indicated “traces” of precipitation, with no reported
power outages."

out the real George Lutz’s website

True story or not, much like UFOs The Amityville Horror debacle is still
interesting to this day. I expect the release of the remake and the most likely
“True Story” marketing campaign to re-awaken the whole “Is it a hoax” debate.
