Amityville: The Awakening gets an April Fools release date

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It has been seventeen months to the day since we shared the trailer for the Dimension Films release AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, the latest entry in the long-running franchise that began with 1979's THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. At that time, the movie was scheduled to be in theatres on January 2, 2015, but it ended up being delayed indefinitely less than four months before it was supposed to hit the big screen.

We should have already seen this movie a year ago, but the extended wait is supposed to be coming to an end soon, as BoxOfficeMojo's updated release schedule shows that AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING is now set to be released on April 1st. That's two weeks earlier than the date that had previously been going around, and hopefully Dimension isn't pulling an April Fools prank on us.

Directed by Franck Khalfoun (the MANIAC remake), AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING is rated R for strong horror violence and language and has the following synopsis:

Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann, and Jennifer Morrison star.
