THE DEPARTED scribe William Monahan has been tapped to adapt John Grisham’s best-selling novel “The Associate” into a top-grossing film called THE ASSOCIATE–a star vehicle for our boy Shia LaBeouf.

In it, LaBeouf will play a Yale Law School student with a terrible secret that leaves him vulnerable to blackmail. He’s manipulated into taking a job at a law firm and working on a multibillion-dollar lawsuit. Since when does Grisham write stories about law firms? Haha.

Actually, we haven’t had a Grisham film in a while, and truth be told, some classic films have been based on this guy’s novel. And we all remember what happened the last time Monahan wrote an adaptation, right?
