Way back in May Eric hit you all with the news that popular Japanese genre flick BATTLE ROYALE was in line to be converted to 3D. Yes, a classic flick like BATTLE ROYALE, which is 10 years old, being converted to 3D. Let’s rejoice!
Alright that rejoice comment was completely sarcastic, but you know what isn’t sarcastic? The fact that BATTLE ROYALE is being converted to 3D. Yeah, that’s happening. And today we have some news coming out of Nippon Cinema that has Anchor Bay planning on releasing BATTLE ROYALE 3D on the US early next year. But that’s not all! They’ll also be releasing BATTLE ROYALE 2… Well I’d say it’s about time. Now can we rejoice?
Want to know the kicker here? BATTLE ROYALE and it’s sequel were never picked up for US distribution so Anchor Bay are snatching up something pretty worthwhile here. And just in case you’re not down for this 3D conversion business Anchor Bay will also be releasing the original film, sans-3D. Natch!
Now there’s no telling when these films will officially hit the US but they should be coming at us sometime early next year. As always we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more BATTLE ROYALE updates and as soon as those come our way we’ll be sure to pass the good word along to all of you!
